A liquid diet is a diet of liquids and liquidised food only containing no solid foods. Such liquidised foods will usually consist of smoothies and a soup diet.

A liquid diet plan is similar to a detox plan in many aspects.

Another form of the liquid diet is the juice diet where typically dieters consume only fruit and vegetables in liquidised form.

There are different variations of the liquid diet including a clear liquid diet of transparent liquid foods such as vegetable broth, bouillon, clear fruit juices, clear fruit ices, popsicles, clear gelatin desserts and no carbonated drinks.

A full or strained liquid diet consists of both clear and opaque liquid foods with a smooth consistency. It includes milk, milkshakes, ice cream, puddings, strained cream soups, fruit nectar with pulp, smooth cooked cereals such as porridge and cream of wheat, butter, and honey. Fruit juices (no pulp), coffee, gelatin, popsicles (without pulp), water and clear carbonated drinks are also allowed.

A liquid diet is usually prescribed for medical purposes.

However is can result in fast lose weight loss. Overall the weight loss achieved will depend largely on the calories ingested which in turn depends upon what foods are taken in liquidised form. If a diet consisting of fuit and vegetables only in liquidised form to followed weight loss is quick. Adding milks and shakes to your intake will not result in as much weight loss.

How does the Liquid Diet work?

As the calories are in liquid form and often in a watered down version it is easy to feel full sooner and consume less calories than on a solid foods diet.

However as nothing solid is eaten dieters often develop craving for simply eating solid foods together with feelings of deprivation. These emotions can be difficult to beat without strong will power.
